PAST EVENTS

7TH ANNUAL POKER RUN!

Our annual Fat Tire Poker Run was held on February 16 – 18; all three trail networks were in fantastic shape! We had about 15% more riders this year than last, and about half were not from the area, which is great for local businesses! The after party was held at Iron Furnace Brewing in Franconia, and everyone walked away with some good swag and great prizes!

Winter Bike to Work Day

The first Winter Bike to Work and School Day held in the North Country was a resounding success. Not only did the weather cooperate making it a great day to ride, we hosted three events including: Littleton Bike and Fitness welcomed riders in the morning with a place to change, store their bikes for the day, and get a free cup of coffee. The 2024 James Beard nominee, Super Secret Ice Cream had riders  covered mid-day offering free hot chocolate and given that they’re in the center of Town, next to the trails and school, it was a prefect place to host riders. And to end the day, the Franconia Inn offered a free drink to riders in their pub, a place to shower and change, and to store bikes. No wonder we had so many participants!

Week Without Driving

Bike the North Country and Adaptive Sports Partners of the North Country are partnering to challenge you to join the “week without driving”.

Who:  You, and everyone that drives a car

What:  Spend a week in October not driving. Find alternative ways to get around (hint: bicycles are a great way to get around, reduce emissions, and increase your health).

When: October 2 through October 8, 2023

Where:  It’s a nationwide challenge – let’s show them what the North Country can do!

Why: This was originally created to bring attention to people with disabilities, young people and seniors. This will also help reduce emissions for the week and get us to think about alternative ways to get around, especially for short trips! It’s also a step closer to our utopia – bikes not cars. The world would be so much better off!

Trike Fest

The Annual Trike Fest was held over the September 15-17 weekend and was a resounding success. Rain held off throughout the weekend and everyone was able to get in on the group rides at each of the trail networks over the course of the weekend. And of course, the welcome party at Iron Furnace Brewery on Friday night and the after party at Rek-Lis Brewing on Saturday night were a good time for all!

Our goal was a free, celebratory weekend of riding and fun – success on all fronts!!

Bike Rodeos

May was Bike Month nationwide, and we did our part to participate! Bike Rodeo’s were held at 5 schools across the area teaching kids everything from bike safety, to bike maintenance, to some great riding skills to make it fun and safe for everyone. Look at the smiles on those kids’ faces!

Ride of Silence

On May 17, at 7:00 pm, thousands of cyclists across the world took to the streets in a Ride of Silence to commemorate and bring attention to fellow cyclists that have been killed or injured by motorists. New Hampshire’s only Ride of Silence took place in Littleton, out of Littleton Bike and Fitness and was organized and led by Jen Dodge, herself a victim. The ride takes place on the third Wednesday every May,

Despite the weather (think cold, windy, and yes, some snow flurries – it is May in the North Country!) there was a hardy group of riders that showed up and did the 9.5 mile ride, in silence. It was very reflective and even more meaningful given the recent death at the Rasputista race.

The goal of the ride is to not only remember those that have been killed or injured while cycling, but to bring attention to the need for vehicle operators to better understand how to share the road safely with cyclists.
